Workshops & Speaking

Request a Workshop or Speech

What We Offer:

Blurring the Binary offers engaging, research-informed workshops and speaking experiences for companies, nonprofits, professional associations, universities, schools, art organizations, and community groups. We bring together scholarship, lived experience, advocacy, and practical insight to help audience engage thoughtfully with gender diversity,  LGBTQ+ inclusion,  organizational culture, and social change.

Workshops & Professional Development

Workshops help organizations move beyond surface-level conversations and develop a more informed understanding of the people they employ, serve, and support. Sessions can be adapted for employees, leadership teams, educators, students, artists, or community members.

Topics may include transgender and LGBTQ+ identities; inclusive communication and organizational practices; recognizing and disrupting misinformation; navigating difficult conversations; and understanding how culture, policy, and everyday decisions shape people's experiences. Specialized sessions for musical and arts-based settings are also available. For more information on these, please see our Choral Consulting page.

Keynotes & Event Speaking

Our founder, Melanie, is available for conferences, organizational events, commemorations, graduations, and community gatherings.  Drawing on her experiences as a researcher, educator, advocate, musician, and transgender woman, she develops talks that connect personal narrative with larger questions of identity, leadership, resilience, belonging, and social responsibility.

Keynotes and invited remarks may be educational, motivational, commemorative, or advocacy-centered depending on the needs and purposes of the event.

Guest Lectures

Perhaps our most popular option, guest lectures we provide can include foundational concepts, complement existing coursework or professional learning, or provide deeper engagement with specialized topics related to gender, LGBTQ+ communities, education, policy, advocacy, or music. Presentations can be developed for a single class, department-wide event, professional development program, or interdisciplinary audience.

Panels & Facilitated Conversations

With an extensive history of panel moderation, we are available to moderate panels and facilitate conversations involving identity, equity, education, advocacy, and organizational change. Support may include developing guiding questions, preparing participants, moderating the live discussion, and helping connect individual perspectives to the larger purpose of the event.

Our Approach:

No two audiences or organizations are identical. Every engagement begins with a conversation about your goals, participants, context, and available time. From there, we develop an experience that is accessible, relevant, and responsive to the people in the room.

Whether you are planning a workplace training, conference keynote, university lecture, professional-development session, panel, or community event, we can create an engagement that informs, challenges, and meaningfully connects with your audience.

Book a Workshop or Speech

Few people are as skilled at bridging the realms of scholarship and practice in the way that you do, helping participants envision concrete actions they can take to create positive experiences for their students.
